Plum Tree pruning!

I think I totally messed up my plum tree....I pruned it too brutal and left only TWO strong arms seperating at the top...the tree looks exactly like a sling shot....a stem with a V on top that seperates the TWO arms. I wanted to prune it to an open centre vase shape. Hoping that I could get TWO more strong arms next year. Is this wrong style of pruning will the tree fill in next year?
What shape do plum trees need?
This tree is very young 3 years old max.

Re: Plum Tree pruning!

It will sprout new branches. In the meantime look for illustrated web pages and pruning books, pruning pamphlets that talk about pruning plum trees, so you will have a better idea what you are doing when the time comes next year. There may be an agricultural ministry publication that talks about orchard husbandry, includes plum pruning information. Another thing to look out for, if in-person demonstration is the kind of presentation you need is pruning classes being provided by local sources. Here we have had them conducted at USDA Cooperative Extension facilities, community colleges, garden centers and at various locations by at least one membership organization.
