For Teachers and Parents
UBC Botanical Garden - Helping teachers and parents instruct children about plants, nature and the environment.
UBC Botanical Garden can be used as a living classroom. Teachers and parents can show children a working compost pile, explore how different foods are grown, learn about the diversity of plants from around the world and teach living sustainably.
Some Activity Ideas
- Visiting with kids aged 5-10? The Sustainability Kids Activity Sheet is a fun, interactive activity sheet for teachers and families to help children explore the relationship between plants, people and healthy communities using the UBC Botanical Garden. Follow the kids' route on the main garden map (in red) and match the red Stop Signs around the garden with pictures on the activity sheet.
- Experience Nitobe Memorial Garden. This traditional tea and stroll garden is a five minute drive north along NW Marine Drive, UBC Gate 4. The size of this two-acre garden with beautiful fish ponds, flowers and traditional stone lanterns make this garden manageable for those with young children or limited time. A double-entry garden pass for $6 allows an adult entry to both gardens at a reduced rate. This can be used at any time for a future visit to Nitobe.
- Explore the Cool Links section for more activity ideas.
Please note: Please encourage children to touch the plants gently and stay on the trails as there are many rare and unique plants located off of the general paths.
Especially for Teachers
