UBC Botanical Garden's Tallest Trees
The tallest trees in UBC Botanical Garden are British Columbia natives and form the upper canopy in the David C. Lam Asian Garden.
The trees are Tsuga heterophylla (western hemlock), Thuja plicata (western redcedar), Abies grandis (grand fir) and Acer macrophyllum (big-leaf maple). A number of Pseudotsuga menziesii (Douglas fir) are also visible. The majority of native trees are approximately 100 years old, as this area was extensively logged at that time. However, a few representatives of the ancient forest remain and are between 200 and 600 years old.
