Eagle Perching Tree

Eagle perching tree

Eagle perching tree: tall or dead trees ("snags") are favoured by bald eagles as resting-places and look-outs.

The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is one of North America's most magnificent birds with a mature plumage of white head and tail. When fully grown (at about 5 years) they have a wingspan of nearly 2.3 metres. They feed mainly on fish, such as herring and pollock on the coast and salmon in the interior. Bald Eagles are common in British Columbia, but human disturbance, removal of nest sites by logging and depletion of salmon stocks by human activities all pose potential problems.
