Several summer student positions are available for the summer of 2009.
Students are hired for available summer positions at the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research based on the following criteria:
- employment is limited to returning first, second and third year students enrolled in a recognized Agriculture, Botany, Horticulture or Plant Biology program at UBC or another university/college, and to returning UBC Masters of Landscape Architecture students
- preference will be given to UBC students, and to students who have not had previous summer employment at the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research
- the term of employment is May 11 to August 14, 2009

Cherry Blossom Viewing at Nitobe Memorial Garden (2009)

Spring is in the air!
Escape the stresses of everyday life at the Vancouver Mokuyokai Society's Ohanami (Cherry Blossom Viewing), the 25th annual celebration of cherry blossoms.
Time: 3:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Date: Saturday, April 11, 2009
Place: Nitobe Memorial Garden and Asian Centre, UBC.
Find peace of mind beneath the splendor of cherry blossoms as you drink in the tranquility of an authentic Japanese tea ceremony and relax to the soothing tones of shakuhachi (bamboo flute) and koto (Japanese harp). Take a guided tour of the authentic Japanese garden, sip some refreshing matcha, make some origami creations, try on a yukata and enjoy a traditional Japanese bento dinner.
Top off your day with a tour of the garden by lantern-light, a magical, once-yearly event at Nitobe Memorial Garden that should not be missed. This garden is considered to be one of the most authentic Japanese gardens in North America and among the top five Japanese gardens outside of Japan.
This event runs rain or shine.
Registration for all tea ceremonies, bento and tours are on a first-come first-served basis at the garden entrance.
