The Canadian Peony Society - Pacific Region

The Canadian Peony Society was founded in 1998 by a small group of Ontario peony experts and enthusiasts. The Constitution of the new Society recognized the five regions in Canada; the Atlantic provinces, Quebec, Ontario, and the Prairie and Pacific regions.

Dan Hinkley Talk

Dan Hinkley, a noted collector of Asian plants and a good friend of many staff members at UBC Botanical Garden, is giving a lecture at the Delta Genesis Theatre on January 31 at 7:30pm. Dan is the owner of Heronswood Nursery in Kingston, Washington.

Fusion Gardening

Join noted English garden author and consultant Mary Keen for a special lecture on 'Fusion Gardening' on February 9 at 7:30pm in Woodward 2 of the IRC Building (UBC campus). The lecture is hosted by the Vancouver Hardy Plant Group and UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research.

Great Grey Owl at UBC

A great grey owl (Strix nebulosa) has been haunting the campus at UBC. Local birdwatching enthusiasts have been observing the owl in Vancouver since the middle of December, first at Stanley Park, then Jericho Beach and now on the UBC campus.

January Courses and Lectures

Dr. Quentin Cronk will be giving a free noon hour seminar on January 12, detailing some of the recent research projects being pursued at the Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research.
On Saturday, January 24, Tony Maniezzo, horticulturist in charge of the UBC Food Garden will be giving a course on fruit tree pruning (follow link for more information). Tony will teach how to best prune fruit trees for maximum fruit production and tree health. Discounts are available on the course fees to garden members.
