Fifty Years of Gardening

Helen Dillon, noted garden writer and author from Ireland, is speaking about Fifty Years of Gardening on October 6.
The lecture starts at 7:30pm in Woodward Lecture Theatre 2 in the IRC Building on the UBC Campus. Tickets cost $20 and are available from the UBC Shop in the Garden and Southlands Nursery.

The new site for the UBC Centre for Plant Research is live. It features information about researchers and research at the UBC Centre for Plant Research. Catering to the researcher and the student, it also has forums for plant research discussion and a weblog for the latest news of relevance to plant scientists, botanists and students.

Water Use Policy

UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research strongly believes in water conservation, even when water restrictions are not in effect.
The current water shortage in the Greater Vancouver Regional District has prompted the garden to follow a "brown-lawn" policy for its lawn areas. Visitors to the garden will notice the stunning difference between the garden's mostly brown lawns and the lush green grass of the adjacent new housing development.

Name The Apple Contest! (2003)

Agriculture and Agrifood Canada is hosting a Name The Apple contest. A new variety of apple needs a name, and Ag Canada is asking the public for help. This new variety was developed by the apple breeding program at the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre in Summerland, British Columbia.

Botanical Art of Ferdinand Bauer

Browser requirements

I'm anticipating a few complaints about the redesign of this and the other associated web sites which use a similar template because users who use Netscape 4 and Internet Explorer 4 cannot view this site as it appears to other users. For Netscape 4 users, the site appears as plain text, so it can still be read for content. For Internet Explorer 4 users, the browser's understanding of the underlying technologies used to create the display of the new site cause things to shift out of place so badly that some of the content becomes hidden.
