A Walk in the Woods

Walk in the Woods Trail Opening

Thanks to an agreement between the University Neighbourhoods Association and the Botanical Garden, funding was made available to open a new trail at the far end of the Asian Garden for everyone to enjoy: “A Walk in the Woods”.

You are kindly invited to visit the garden and enjoy this new trail with its towering big-leaf maples, moss-laden stumps of trees cut a century ago and alder grove. If you've walked the Asian Garden before, you're familiar with the setting of Asian plants blended with the coastal temperate rainforest backdrop. This experience, while still within part of the native forest that makes up the backbone of the Asian Garden, feels different - it is indeed a “walk in the woods”, as opposed to a walk in the garden.

The trail entrance begins approximately 400m (or more) away from the garden entrance, so it's a bit of a trek to get to. We're in the process of fundraising to increase access to remote areas of the garden (clean-emission visitor carts, paved walkways, decreasing the slope of steep inclines), but for now, I personally recommend you be ready for a long walk to experience the new trail - it's worth it!
