Ivy Busters

The Stanley Park Ecological Society and Vancouver Parks Board are seeking volunteers to help control the invasion of English ivy in Stanley Park. English ivy (Hedera helix) can now be found in approximately a third of the park's six hundred acres.

The vine chokes out native species, leaving what Eric Meagher of the Vancouver Parks Board calls “an ivy desert”.

Ivy pulling days are held every third Sunday beginning at 9 am, and are currently scheduled for July 18, August 8 and 29, and September 19. Interested? Meet at the Stanley Park Ecology Society, located within the Pavilion near Malkin Bowl.
