March Courses and Lectures
An education-packed month, with courses and lectures on waterwise gardening, plant names, success with vegetables, designing for Hampton Court and much more.
March is perennially one of the busy months at the garden for courses and lectures, in no small part due to the Thursday noon lecture series. For March 2004, Judy Newton and / or David Tarrant will be sharing their insight and knowledge on how to propagate plants, succeed with vegetables, garden with water conservation in mind and select great British Columbian native plants for your garden.
Moya Drummond, one of the Friends of the Garden will be sharing her experiences on designing at the Hampton Court Show, a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges and fun of designing a show garden to the exacting standards of the Royal Horticultural Society (UK). This is part of the garden's monthly free Monday seminars, on March 8.
On March 13, Daniel Mosquin will be teaching a course on the names of plants. He'll distill the muddy waters of scientific names, common names, trademark names and cultivar names, while also examining why plant names change.
Noel Kingsbury will be a guest lecturer on the evening of March 24, on the topic of New Ways with Perennials - Diversity and Ecology in West Coast Gardens. This event is hosted by VanDusen Botanical Garden, the BC Master Gardeners and UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research.
