February 2005 - The data currently online are the first steps in a process that will one day form an interactive, collaborative site. It is UBC Botanical Garden's approach to first release these data, and then improve upon them incrementally, instead of waiting to start with the dream system.

As presented, the data are slightly transformed outputs from the garden's decade-old accessions database, and contain errors that are the result of attempting to shoehorn information into fields of insufficient length or using a database field for more than one kind of information. In addition, modern naming conventions are not strictly followed. Lastly, the garden is mid-way through an extensive three-year inventory process, and the data will in part be inaccurate until that process is complete.

While the garden builds upon a new foundation for its data, these data are made available to researchers and the public as a guide to the collections. Please feel free to browse the data or search the data.

Research Requests

Bona fide research requests for extended collections information can be emailed to UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research's .

Research requests for plant material can be submitted using the Materials Transfer Agreement Form accompanying UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research's statement on the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Please Note

Data provided are transformed HTML output from our desktop-based accessions database, and have not been modernized to current standards.

Similarly, the garden is only midway through an extensive inventory process as of early 2005, and the data still contain many errors in presence and nomenclature.

For these two reasons, we ask that the online data be considered “rough guides” to the collections.
